Hubsan X4: FPV Camera & Video Goggles Setup

Hubsan X4: FPV Camera & Video Goggles Setup
HFPV-1 The Spektrum Ultra Micro FPV camera is a great way of getting a first person view from a small aircraft such as a Hubsan X4. However, with the camera on top, you may want to save on the weight of an additional battery to power it. With a few modifications, we had our new FPV set up and ready to fly. In this blog, we are going to show you how we achieved this. X4FPV-01 For this build, we used the Hubsan X4 quadcopter, the Spektrum Ultra Micro FPV Camera and Video Transmitter, and the Flysight Spexman One video goggles for the live view. X4FPV-02 X4FPV-03 X4FPV-04 The first thing you will need to do is remove the bottom half of the Hubsan shell by unscrewing the three small screws circled in the picture below. X4FPV-05 X4FPV-06 Next, you need to remove the battery connector from the camera and bare the ends of each wire coming from it. X4FPV-07 X4FPV-08   After that has been done, you can go ahead and solder the camera wires to the underside of the main board where the battery is connected; red to red and black to black. X4FPV-09 Then you can arrange the camera like so... X4FPV-10 ...and replace the bottom part of the shell.     X4FPV-11 X4FPV-12 Secure the camera to the top of the shell using a double-sided sticky pad.   X4FPV-13 X4FPV-14   All that is left to do is put on your video goggles, tune them in, and take it for a test flight. X4FPV-15   You'll have a blast flying this around, especially in places where it would be much harder with a larger model. We've certainly had fun testing it in the office; even flying it under tables and out of the window.
