Upgrade your RCG Racing MT-One - Brushless Conversion

Upgrade your RCG Racing MT-One - Brushless Conversion

If you’ve been tearing up the garden or skatepark with the RCG Racing MT-One brushed Monster Truck, you already had a taste of how fun it can be. But what if we told you there’s a way to take that fun and power to the next level?

In this blog, we’re diving into how you can upgrade your MT-One from the standard brushed setup to a full brushless powerhouse. We’ll cover why you might want to upgrade, exactly what parts you’ll need, and how to fit them. It’s easier than you might think - and the performance gains? Let’s just say you’ll notice.

Got a FTX Tracer or Blackzon Slyder instead? This guide still applies.

If you’re running the FTX Tracer Brushed or the Blackzon Slyder, good news—the upgrade process is exactly the same. These models share the same platform as the MT-One, so the brushless motor, ESC/receiver, and metal driveshafts all fit perfectly. You can follow this guide step-by-step to give your Tracer or Slyder the same boost in power and performance.

🏎️ Why Upgrade to Brushless?

The MT-One is quick out of the box, but going brushless unlocks a whole new level of performance. Here’s why so many RC enthusiasts make the switch:

  • More power, more speed - A brushless setup gives your truck a serious kick, with faster acceleration and a noticeably higher top speed.

  • Improved efficiency - Brushless motors are more efficient, which often means longer run times on the same battery.

  • Less maintenance -  No brushes = fewer moving parts = less stuff to wear out or replace.

In short, brushless means faster, tougher, and longer-lasting. Perfect if you're looking to level up your backyard bashing or hit bigger jumps with confidence.

🧰 What You’ll Need for the MT-One Brushless Upgrade

To make the switch, you’ll need four specific upgrade parts. They’re all made to work perfectly with the MT-One, and you can grab them right from our store.

🔌 RCG Racing Tracer / MT-One Brushless ESC/Receiver

This is specially designed to handle the increased power from the brushless motor.

⚙️ RCG Racing Tracer / MT-One Motor Pinion (16T) For Brushless Motor

A must-have for the new motor — this pinion gear includes the set screw needed for brushless installations.

🔩 RCG Racing Tracer / MT-One Metal Rear Drive Shaft (2pcs)

With all that added power, the plastic driveshafts can become a weak point. These upgraded metal shafts are tougher and built to handle brushless power.

Recommended Add-On:

🔧 RCG Racing Tracer / MT-One Wheelie Bar Assembly

Not absolutely required for the truck to run, but definitely worth having to get the most out of the upgrade without damaging your truck.

If you’re planning to go brushless, we’ve made it even easier - you can grab all three essential parts as a bundle for a better price. The Brushless ESC/Receiver product page now includes a bundle option to add the matching motor and metal driveshafts, saving you a bit compared to buying them separately. It’s a quick way to get everything you need in one go, with a little bonus on the cost too.

Grab all and you’re ready to go brushless.

🔧 How to Install Your Brushless Upgrade (Step-by-Step)

Don’t worry - this isn’t a full strip-down job. If you’ve got a basic RC toolkit and a bit of patience, this conversion is very doable at home.

🔧 Step 1: Remove the Chassis Screws

To open the MT-One, you’ll need to remove 15 screws. These hold the top chassis plate in place. We’ve labelled their locations in the images below:

Once the screws are out, carefully lift the plastic cover.

🔌 Step 2: Unplug and Remove the Old Electronics

Disconnect the LED lights, brushed ESC, motor wires, and servo plug. Gently lift out the brushed ESC and motor from the chassis.

You can also remove the plastic rear driveshafts at this stage. To remove them, simply pull them out on an angle from the outdrive cups.

⚙️ Step 3: Prep the Brushless Motor

The new brushless motor doesn’t come with a pinion pre-installed, so you’ll need to attach the MT-One (16T) Pinion Gear using the grub screw.

Use the original motor mount bracket from the brushed setup to secure the new motor in place - it’s a direct fit.

⚡ Step 4: Install the Brushless Electronics and Fit the Metal Driveshafts

Mount the brushless motor and ensure a smooth gear mesh between the pinion and spur. Place the new brushless ESC/receiver unit where the old one sat.

Replace the plastic driveshafts with the metal upgrades. These are direct fit replacements and provide better durability under increased power.

✅ Step 5: Reassemble and Test

Reconnect all wiring, and refit the top chassis cover. Tighten all 15 screws back into place.
We recommend doing a quick bench test to check steering, throttle, and braking before your first run.

That’s it - your MT-One is now brushless!

⚡ Brushed vs Brushless: What’s the Real Difference?

We’ve tested both versions, and here’s what we found:

Feature

Brushed

Brushless

Top Speed

Up to 20 mph

Up to 30 mph

Acceleration

Smooth - steady

Snappy - instant

Runtime

Up to 15 mins

Up to 15 mins

Maintenance

Motor might need replacing after extended use

Minimal

The brushless version feels way more alive - it rips from a standstill, handles heavier landings, and just feels sharper all around.

❓ Common Questions

Q: Can I use my existing battery?
Yes! If you’ve got a 2S Li-Ion or LiPo pack, it’ll work with the new brushless setup.  The brushless MT-One comes with a 1000mAh Li-ion battery as standard, while the brushed version includes an 800mAh pack. Both will get you up and running, but if you’re looking for longer run times and a bit more punch, we’d recommend picking up the 1500mAh upgraded battery. It’s a simple swap and gives you more time between charges.

Q: Will this void my warranty?
Upgrading does involve swapping out key electronics, so technically yes. That said, these parts are designed specifically for the MT-One chassis, so it's a clean fit.

Q: How long does the install take?
If it’s your first time, budget about 30–45 minutes. Once you’ve done it once, it’s a 20-minute job tops.

🏁 Ready to Go Brushless?

Whether you're racing your mates or just want a little more punch on your local track, upgrading to brushless is one of the best mods you can make to the MT-One. With a few quick swaps, your Monster Truck will be faster, tougher, and a lot more fun.
