Unboxing the RCG Racing Wind Speed and Storm Rider Buggies

These remote control buggies are suitable for children over the age of 8. Ready to run without too much faff, all you need is a small cross head screw driver, 3x AA batteries and you are good to get racing!

What's in the box?

Included in the box is the ready-to-run buggy, 4x spare body clips, Phillips screwdriver for installing the transmitter batteries and wheel replacements, 2.4Ghz transmitter, 7.4v 1500mah Battery and USB Charger.

What's not in the box?

3x AA batteries for the transmitter.

How to get these buggies up and running:

This RC buggy is super easy to get up and running, just ensure you have 3x AA batteries for the transmitter at the ready.  

Charging the battery

All batteries arrive 70% charged but, we recommend fully charging all batteries before using your RC cars to avoid any disappointment.

Begin by taking the body clips off the body shell and placing them somewhere you won't lose them. Remove the body shell and you will see the inside of the chassis of the car. You will find the battery and USB charger in a separate bag within the box containing the transmitter. To charge the battery, insert the USB charging cable to a USB port with an output of no higher than 2A such as a computer port. When connected, it will display a solid red light. Then you will need to connect the battery. Once you have done so, the solid red light will stay but be joined by a green flashing light which indicate that it is charging the battery. Once charged, the green light will become solid. The battery will take around 3 hours to fully charge, however, this will vary depending on your USB power source. 

Please ensure to check the precautions of charging these batteries with the user manual. 

Once you have removed the battery from charge, connect the sockets of the battery to the car via the connection points as seen below.

Place the battery into the battery compartment on the chassis and place the body shell back on. Securing it all in place with body clips. 

Transmitter set up 

These hobby grade remote control cars, feature proportional steering with trims for both the throttle and the steering.

To get set up, turn the transmitter upside down and remove the battery cover by loosening the screw with the provided screwdriver. Once the batteries are installed, close the battery cover and tighten the screw back in place. 

The on off button is the round button on the top (simple click on and click off). Twist the wheel on the side clockwise to turn the car right and anti-clockwise for left, pull and push the trigger to actuate the throttle.

You have two lights on the transmitter, when the light is green you know the car is connected. If it is red or flashing red this indicates that either the batteries in your transmitter or your car are either flat or on its way to needing to recharge. 

From here, you are good to go. Always ensure that you turn the transmitter on first and then the car. 

Driving the two buggies

We took all four RC Cars out for a drive on both soft and hard terrain to see how they would handle the surroundings. 

Starting with the soft terrain first, the buggies had no issue at all over the freshly mown grass. Granted they only have 28mm ground clearance, they still move pretty fast. If the grass is any longer though, the buggies did get stuck and grass became caught around the wheel and suspension springs causing a slight issue with having to stop and untangle the mess made! 

On loose gravel however, this is where the real adventure and excitement is. We managed to get ourselves down to a local, small pump track where we could really test the speed of these buggies. Over bumps, jumps and gravel paths these guys really move. You can achieve some serious air time and create great donuts with the right power and positioning. We would caution against doing these stunts and tricks too often as this could cause some damage to the car.

Detail of the buggies

The Storm Rider buggy has some great details on its body, with a faux light-bar detail strapped to the red and blue exoskeleton design. While the Wind Speed has a roof rack attached to the green and yellow roll cage. Held down by four clips, the body is completely removable to swap out the included, user-replaceable lithium battery. This powerful 2S pack can power the buggy along at high speeds, suited more to older children or younger teens.

Oversized tyres are wrapped around the brightly coloured multi spoke wheels, screw mounted to the hubs. The suspension features sprung dampers paired with multi link arms and hubs with metal ball bearings, rare at this low price point. With good ground clearance the rc buggy can be driven on carpet, grass, dirt and gravel but note that it is not water resistant.
